I am a lecturer (i.e. assistant professor) in electronic systems at Newcastle University, UK. From May 2013 to August 2015, I have worked as a (named) senior research fellow as part of PRiME project (www.prime-project.org) in the School of Electronics and Computer Science (ECS), University of Southampton, UK. Prior to that I have also worked as a post-doctoral research fellow in the University of Bristol, UK from 2011 to 2013, and as a lecturer/assistant professor in the Islamic University of Technology (IUT, a subsidiary organ of the OIC) from 2002 to 2006. Currently, I am also a visiting academic fellow of PRiME programme grant, funded by EPSRC.
I received my PhD and MSc (with distinction) degrees from the University of Southampton in 2010 and 2005, and the BSc in Electronic Engineering degree (with distinction) from the Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Bangladesh in 2001.
Apart from my academic career, I am also a proud father of two little girls: Raisa and Raya. My daughters, and my wife, Dr Sonia Ahmed (public health nutrition), continue to be the source of my energy.
I am generally interested in research and development of intelligent and energy-efficient electronic systems, particularly tailored to meet the conflicting application tradeoffs, such as power, performance, and reliability. Over the years my research has been reported/published extensively in more than 75 international peer-reviewed articles in leading journals and conferences. Some of these works have also been nominated for best paper awards in leading conferences. See detailed list of publications.
My recent research interests include the following specific areas:
Design and runtime management of intelligent and energy-efficient electronic systems; hardware/software co-design and co-optimisation; programming models (OpenMP, OpenCL, OpenCV)
Power-adaptive computing systems for embedded and large-scale computing systems, such as big data applications, cloud server systems, translational applications and deep-learning systems.
